June 1 is Ootacamund Day. It is a time to show one’s love, concern and care for Ooty. Individuals, institutions, organisations can observe this day in many useful ways to remind ourselves of the glory of Ooty and its present problems with a resolve to overcome them together.
Ootacamund officially came into existence when John Sullivan moved into Stone House (present Government Arts College) on June 1, 1823. The centenary of Ootacamund was celebrated on June 1, 1923. The bicentenary will fall on June 1, 2023. This year also marks the 150 anniversary of the Ootacmund Municipality.
The Superintendent of Nilgiris has shown the way in time and initiated the move to clean up Ooty together. I appeal to all citizens of Ooty to follow the good example of the kind SP and make a strong impact on June 1 with the message, ‘Together We Can’.
